C. Lowry Barnes, MD, completed fellowship training in total joint replacement from Harvard Medical School and from Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2000, Dr. Barnes was named the Arthritis Foundation Person of the Year. In 2006, Dr. Barnes was awarded a John Insall fellowship and joined three surgeons from Belgium, Japan, and Johns Hopkins lecturing, learning and exchanging ideas about total knee replacements in the United States and Canada. Brett D. Owens, MD is a fellowship-trained, board certified orthopedic sports medicine surgeon, specializing in arthroscopic repair of sports-related injuries as well as complex knee and shoulder reconstructions. A Rhode Island native, he was recruited to University Orthopedics after serving as the Chief of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Keller Army Hospital at West Point, NY, where he cared for soldiers and cadets at the United States Military Academy and was Team Physician for the Army lacrosse, rugby, and football teams. While deployed in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, LTC Owens served as Chief of Orthopedics at the 86th Combat Support Hospital. (more...)
Boris Zelle, MD. Dr. Zelle joined the clinical faculty at UT Health San Antonio in 2011. Born and raised in Germany, Dr. Zelle earned his medical degree from the George-August University of Gottingen School of Medicine. He received postgraduate surgical training at the Department of Trauma Surgery at Hannover Medical School. In 2002, Dr. Zelle moved to the United States and completed a postdoctoral orthopaedic research fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He subsequently, completed his orthopaedic residency training as well as his orthopaedic trauma fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. (more...)
